    Varsity Tutors holds a monthly $1,000 college scholarship contest where students write an essay in response to a monthly prompt. Visitors to the Varsity Tutors scholarship webpage are able to vote via social media for submitted entries. The top five entries with the most votes are reviewed by Varsity Tutors at the end of the month and one winner is subsequently chosen to receive the $1,000 college scholarship.     KC Board of Trustee Scholarships:  For the top 2 students from our high school that will be attending KC who are in the top 25% of the class. 

    Elk's Legacy Awards are $4,000 scholarships for children and grandchildren of Elks members.  The deadline for applications for the 2018 contest will be February 2, 2018 at 11:59 a.m. Central Time.  For more information:  
    Seniors: The Golden Apple Scholars is now available.  The Golden Apple Scholars of Illinois Program is now recruiting aspiring teachers for Illinois schools-of-need.  Apply to become a Scholar:  The Golden Apple Scholars Class of 2018 application is open. High school students graduating in 2018 or first- and second-year college students can apply to become a Scholar.     Burger King Scholarship is now available.  Created in memory of BURGER KING® Co-founder James “Jim” W. McLamore, the BURGER KINGâ„  Scholars program has awarded $32 million in scholarships to more than 30,000 high school students, BK® employees and their families across the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico since 2000. In 2017 alone, the Foundation awarded $3.5 million to more than 3,200 students in North America.  Scholarship grants range from $1,000 to $50,000 and are intended to help students offset the cost of attending college or post-secondary vocational/technical school. Recipients are selected based on their grade point average (GPA), work experience, extracurricular activities and community service.  The application period for the 2018-2019 school year begins on Oct. 15, 2017 and closes Dec. 15, 2017.  BURGER KING® General Track - Available to all high school seniors who meet the criteria below.  Note: Employees, spouses or domestic partners of employees, and children of employees who meet eligibility requirements for the General and Employee-Based Track will be considered for an award in both tracks, but if selected, will receive only one award.

    GE-Reagan Scholarship:
    Honoring the legacy and character of our nation’s 40th President, the GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program rewards college-bound students who demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship with financial assistance to pursue higher education.
    Each year, the Program selects numerous recipients to receive a $10,000 scholarship renewable for up to an additional three years – up to $40,000 total per recipient. Awards are for undergraduate study and may be used for education-related expenses, including tuition, fees, books, supplies, room, and board. In addition, Scholars are invited to participate in a special awards program and receive ongoing leadership-development support.
    To be eligible for this award, applicants must:
    ~demonstrate at school, at the workplace, and within the community the attributes of leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship;
    ~demonstrate strong academic performance (minimum 3.0 grade point average/4.0 scale or equivalent);
    ~be citizens of the United States of America;
    ~be current high school seniors attending high school in the United States`
    ~plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study toward a bachelor’s degree at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States for the entire upcoming academic year.

    Thomas H. Moore Illinois Electric Cooperatives (IEC) Memorial Scholarships are now available.  The Thomas H. Moore program offers nine (9) academic scholarships. Must be a member of an Illinois Electric Coop.     AXA Achievement Scholarship:  The AXA Achievement Scholarship offers college scholarships of $2,500, $10,000 and $25,000 to high school seniors who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their activities in school, the community or the workplace. Scholarship winners are known as AXA Achievers. They are ethnically and economically diverse, but they share these qualities: ambition and drive; determination to set and reach goals; respect for self, family and community; ability to succeed in college. The scholarship is sponsored by the AXA Foundation, the philanthropic arm of AXA US.  The 2018 program will be accepting applications from September 5, 2017 until 10,000 applications are submitted or December 15, 2017, whichever comes first.     ACT STUDENT CHAMPION AWARD ($500)... Applicants must show tenacity, persistence, and have a clear plan in place for after high school. Criteria will be those that have overcome difficulties, have a 22 or high composite score on their ACT or a 3.0 or higher GPA, and preference will be given to underrepresented populations and first-generation college students.     ROVE PEST CONTROL SCHOLARSHIP ($500)...Applicant must be high school seniors and have a 3.0 GPA or higher.     The Cheryl McAllister Scholarship will be offered this year.  It is open to any senior from CHS.  The scholarship recipient will be judged on the basis of a 500 word paper which shows that the student is able to express his/her thoughts clearly; that the student clearly has a command of the English language and the ability to understand literature and apply that understanding to his/her own life.  The essay topic is:  What book has most influenced our life and in what ways has it influenced your life?  Reminder - This essay should not be a book report.  The due date is January 30th and should be submitted to Mrs. Branon.
